Is Compliance enough?
I’m presently involved in an initiative to improve the accessibility of our online properties, something that I am truly digging. While I realize how little I know about making things more accessible, it’s exciting to discover best practices and techniques to make things more accessible for all users.
From a business perspective, the main driver is compliance in our industry. However, as my focus is less on the application side and more on the content side, I find it more attractive to not only be compliant, but to actually create a positive user experience (something I wish I did more of). What if we not only were compliant, but also surprisingly engaging to all users with accessibility challenges. That’s where I hope to bring an emphasis.
As discoveries are made, I plan to post them here, primarily because I’ve found lots of contradicting information online. So I hope to share information used in the real world, on real, large, publicly accessible web sites. Stay tuned.
